Rosamunde Baird grew up as the apple in her father's eye - until one kiss from the Duke of Helston's heir ruined her life (she refused to marry him knowing that he loved another woman). She was banished from her home and married a cruel man. The only comfort that she had was that her sister followed her to keep her company.

When she is widowed, Rosamunde has no choice but to accept an invitation to stay with a Dowager Duchess, who runs a widowed women's club. The Duchess's grandson, Luc St Aubyn, is very handsome, but Rosamunde decides to avoid temptation. She is still shunned by some for the previous scandal and wants to be able to start a new life elsewhere.

Luc St. Aubyn has a reputation as Lord Fire and Ice. He has been known to evoke passions by night but be icy the next morning. He is not interested in the women of the widows' club until he gets to know Rosamunde. He also has secrets, such as a book that he wrote that is much talked about. He is shocked when he finds himself wanting to keep the fire going with Rosamunde and to avoid that icy letdown when morning comes.

Luc and Rosa's story in A Dangerous Beauty is poignant. Rosamunde feels guilt over her mistake years ago but is stubborn enough to not beg forgiveness from her father. Luc helps put that scandal in perspective. The romance that develops between Rosa and Luc is refreshing and makes the book an enchanting read for a lazy summer afternoon.
