Sir Rand la Nuit arrives with the story that he's come to court Miriel, the third Warrior Maid of Rivenloch. Miriel knows better and needs to find out what his secret is. She accepts his story of meeting her at a tournament with her sisters and their husbands, and sets out to uncover his mission. She has been taught by Sung Li to fight so she is not concerned for her safety. She is secretly The Shadow, who robs from the rich to give to the poor.

Rand is a mercenary, hired to capture The Shadow. He plans to check out the forest by night and court Miriel by day for cover. Little does he know the effect Miriel will have on him. Her spirited attitude not only amuses him but makes him want to get to know her much more closely than he anticipated. Miriel's sisters are suspicious of Rand from the beginning, and he tries to win them all over. He also does not trust Miriel's teacher Sung Li, who lurks in every corner.

Knight's Prize has everything, from deception and secrets, to passion and romance, with elements of humor. Sarah McKerrigan's attention to time period detail is wonderful and she makes you see the forest where The Shadow lurks. Sir Rand and Miriel are perfectly suited for each other and the romance between them develops seamlessly. Enjoy!
