Jenny Majesky has lost everything in a house fire. While she was at work in her bakery her house burned to the ground. The local police chief, Rourke McKnight, a childhood friend, opened his home to her, but with their complicated past it was not working. She moved into the Winter Lodge, a cabin on Willow Lake owned by her half sister Olivia.

Jenny owns and operates the Sky River Bakery in Avalon New York, nestled in the beautiful Catskills Mountains. She also writes a weekly column for the local paper. Writing is her passion and she had dreams of moving to the Big Apple to pursue it. Her dreams were put on hold after her beloved Gram had a stroke. Jenny took over the bakery and also caring for her Grandmother. When her Gram passed away she was in a comfort zone with her job and friends and decided to stay on.

Jenny's mother left town years before and was never heard from again. She only found her biological father and half sister Olivia recently, along with numerous cousins and aunts and uncles. She's beginning to build a relationship with her new found family. Olivia offered the cabin to Jenny so she would have a quiet place to write.

Going through the remains of her house, Jenny finds hidden treasure in her grandfather's belongings. This takes her on a quest to find her mother. Local teens hiking in the mountains make a discovery hing in a hidden cave, which moves someone to find out what Jenny knows about her mother's past. While a blizzard traps Jenny in the lodge, Rourke rescues her from intruders. If Jenny follows her dream does it mean she will walk away from her true love?

In The Winter Lodge, the second book in The Lakeside Chronicles, Susan Wiggs has given us a beautiful story of family, friendships and love.
