Jefferson Parker thriller is just the right answer for a dreary day. You'll be so caught up in the action you won't notice the gray skies. Storm Runners is Parker's fourteenth novel of action and suspense. Matt Stromsoe is recovering from an explosion that killed his wife and young son and severely wounded him. He is approached by a TV weather forecaster to protect her from a stalker. She, apart from her TV work, is the great-great granddaughter of Charles Hatfield, a man who claimed to be a rainmaker. Frankie Leigh has discovered his secret laboratory and is trying to continue his work to bring water to drought stricken lands. There is an element that doesn't want Frankie to succeed. That's as much of the plot as I will reveal. To know more, you'll have to read it yourself. Stromsoe is a pathetic creature as we first meet him. We are a part of his rebirth as he accepts Frankie's pleas for help. He is a character who just won't stay down. When he's hit, he pops up again like those blow-up clowns. Frankie has guts too - but maybe not too much sense where the threats to her life are concerned. Action flourishes on almost every page. The descriptions of life in a high security prison would certainly deter anyone from committing a crime. Corruption runs rampant. The tightly crafted plot keeps pages turning long into the night. Thrilling moments erupt with heart stopping action. Like any other good book, Storm Runners leaves the reader wanting more.
