Are you dating a man-child, a woman-hater or a commitment-phobe? In other words are you a down-dater? Sullivan's definition of a down-dater is a woman of good character, sound mind, solid education, and great ambition who cannot seem to tear herself away from losers. In case you don't know you are dating a loser, Sullivan lists them and their losing qualities, and explains why you might be staying in the relationship.

Sullivan encourages you to become a well-rounded woman while searching for the best sort of man. Dating a man who is well-informed, inquisitive, and interested in knowing about a wide range of topics means a woman can be no different.

Dating Up includes everything you need to know to make you a discerning person, but nothing that will turn you into 'a man-pleasing robot' as some dating books suggest. The author offers advice on everything from make-up and where to buy it, hair and wardrobe essentials, to choosing hotels and dining out. She lists 40 must-watch dude flicks and explains the attraction of sports for males. She throws in a secret weapon: fantasy sports teams.

This is just a small introduction to the purposeful information contained in Dating Up. The book puts a little too much stress on rich as a requirement for the perfect partner, but this easy-reading manual will give you a lot to think about, most of which has to do with improving yourself. Whether you're happy in your current relationship or not, Dating Up offers sound advice on self-improvement.
