Nona Conrad takes a job managing a small Arkansas fishing camp and tries to start fresh with her sister, Maggie, and her longtime friend, Mabel. The struggle to keep afloat after her parents' sudden deaths has taken its toll financially and emotionally, especially since she is now the guardian of fourteen-year-old Maggie. She is confused when she receives a letter and a package from her shady half-brother Harold.

When Nona learns that her irritating camp neighbor, Simon, is the new owner, she decides that he really doesn't need her as the manager, but he insists that she stay on. His protective attitude makes Nona angry and she is not sure she can trust him, especially when she learns that Harold has some thugs nosing around herself and Maggie. But when a man is found murdered in the lake bordering the camp and Maggie is kidnapped, Nona has to lean on someone - and Simon is ready and willing to help.

Dorothy Garlock fashions another wonderful story in this her 50th novel. Nona is a spirited woman and Simon has an impish side that makes for lively interactions between the two. Maggie is a teenager who keeps everyone on their toes. On Tall Pine Lake is everything I expected from Dorothy Garlock and more.
