Plastic Fantastic is set in Birmingham, England. Fifteen-year-old Dominic is passionate about the popular new pop group, Plastic. He knows everything there is to know about them. Or at least he thinks he does until he is stuck between two floors in a glass elevator with Lisa Voyd, the band's sexy lead singer.

At first Dominic can only burble and Lisa is in no mood to talk. She's not too thrilled to be there and when Dominic tells her that Plastic is his life, she doesn't understand how anybody can dedicate their life to a rock band, even her own. 'What kind of wasted life are you leading?' she asks.

During the long wait for repairs, Dominic has time to review his slide to into obsession with the band, plus wonder where he's gone wrong in his relationship with Emma, a girl who prefers classic music. Lisa rethinks her commitment to the band and they share their perspective on life and pop music.

Dominic's strong voice and wry humor carry the story, but readers may find that being trapped in a lift with Dominic is something they'd rather avoid.
