Belinda 'Benny' Bernstein moved from Virginia to Los Angeles, California, to follow a boyfriend who cheated on her. After they broke up, she decided that she loved her independence and stayed there, working at a travel agency.

Benny meets Mickey in the supermarket but decides to keep it a casual relationship because she doesn't feel she deserves a good guy. She has to return home to Virginia when she gets a call that her mother and sister have been in a car accident. When she asks for time off work, they let her go. Now she has no job, a man whom she misses, and is heading home to her crazy family.

Benny's mother has three boyfriends and thinks she has a sexually transmitted disease, while her sister Jami has no job and a boyfriend who treats her badly. If that weren't bad enough, Benny meets a nice guy named Zack, whom she can't have. Can Benny help her mother and sister get back on their feet? Better still, can she salvage her own life and be happy?

Pamela Ribon pens a great story of a family that never seems to connect. They love each other but it seems to be only because they have to. The relationship between Benny and her mom is very different from most. I had a hard time putting this book down and ended up finishing it in one day. Why Moms are Weird is a hilarious read that you don't want to miss.
