ick Johnson is the founder of
Better Dads
, a fathering skills program designed to educate men on how to play a bigger and more important role in the lives of their children.
Better Dads, Stronger Sons
takes materials from program workshops in order to reach a wider audience of men desiring to become better fathers to their sons.
T
he book begins by discussing authentic manhood and authentic fatherhood as well as talking about coming to terms with the past. What truly defines being a man and a father? The next chapters cover bonding with your son, mistakes all dads make (such as avoiding physical affection, giving too little time, fearing failure, and abusing power), making a noble man, discipline, respect, sex, role models and mentors, and leaving a legacy.
E
ach chapter is packed with information, examples, and instruction. Bible verses point to direction from God on each subject. At the end of the chapter there are questions for discussion and reflection - allowing the book to be used in a group study or individually.
I
can't say enough good things about the content of this book, even though I'm a mother and it's not even meant for me. The role of a father in a child's life is critical, and this book can help dads be stronger and more influential role models for their sons. This is the perfect gift for Father's Day for any dad or dad-to-be in your life.
