t's 1217 on the East Anglian Coast, when Crowner Ralf finds a brutally murdered man on the road to Tyndal Priory. The search begins for the killer. It appears that someone has attacked a crusader, a man who left home and hearth to fight for Christianity in a foreign land.
B
ut there is more here than meets the eye. Tyndal Priory is unique in that it has a hospital on its premises and all manner of illness and injury is treated here. Could the murderer be among the lame and halt? Prioress Eleanor struggles to hold her community together and to avoid giving up the reins to a Brother, such as the one who wishes her to buy a relic - proported to be the leg bone and knee cap of a saint! She also must fight the physical attraction she feels toward Brother Thomas.
L
ife was not easy in those times, and Priscilla Royal imparts this very well to the reader. Her historical knowledge is awesome, and her manner of sharing that knowledge within the framework of a ripping good mystery deserves notice.
