Rebekah Bailey is in a bind. Heartbroken over her mother's and young brother's recent deaths, she discovers that her father is really her stepfather, and has sold Rebekah's hand in marriage for a side of beef and some moonshine. Rebekah's mother always told her that 'Sooner or later, some handsome man is going to sweep you off your feet and make you his wife.' Wanting to marry for love, Rebekah escapes in the middle of the night on her mother's ancient horse, bound for Denver.

Mason Danfield is charged with taking his young niece and nephew to their father. Mason's wife and sister, the children's mother, died in a tragic accident. The children's father had left months earlier to find land in Oklahoma. Mason isn't even sure where his ne'er do well brother-in-law is, but he needs to try to find him. Much to his surprise, Mason comes across Rebekah in the middle of the prairie. Her horse is almost dead and she's close to the same. Can Mason and Rebekah help each other with their missions?

This is a sweet historical romance with engaging and headstrong characters. Mason and Rebekah make a wonderful couple - the reader realizes this long before they do. Each comes with baggage and is reluctant to trust the other. The children add humor and levity to each situation, making ideal chaperones for the journey. Real historical events, such as the Oklahoma Land Run, provide interesting detail and enhance the story. The characters also must learn to trust God in their lives. The spiritual message is light, yet makes an impact.

Those who shy away from series romances will be pleasantly surprised at how much the plots have improved over the years. Sooner or Later is an excellent choice to get started in the genre. (Note that this book can be ordered at the publisher's site, Heartsong Presents.)
