I
like the
week at a glance
format (days divided into
a.m./p.m.
) of this spiral-bound engagement calendar. Full of glorious images that sprung from the eye and talent of Ansel Adams, it opens with a quote from the artist: '
A detail of a tree root, a segment of a rock, a great paean of thunder clouds ...
' All of these and more are inside the calendar, which ends with monthly planning pages that go to February 2007.
F
rom a February image of veined leaves, to '
Fern Spring
' in April, '
Dogwood Blossoms
' in May, '
Sunrise, Old Walpi Pueblo
' in July, and '
Wheels
' in October, the photographs selected for this calendar are varied and often surprising. There are the expected images of mountains, forests, lakes, waterfalls, sand dunes, and ocean. But I also love misty scenes like '
Redwoods in Fog
', and Adams can make even a tree stump, a branch, or a dead tree look majestic.
A
nsel Adams shows us beauty in the transitory, and in the contrasts that nature presents. His
2006 Engagement Calendar
makes a wonderful gift for a friend or family member - and remember to keep one for yourself.
