Ex-NYPD officer turned lawyer, Holly Barker joins Stone Barrington in New York City to track down Trini Rodriguez, a cold-blooded killer who placed a bomb in a coffin and killed twelve mourners in the process. Holly is a police chief from Orchid Beach. It was on her watch that Trini exploded the bomb. She means to grab him and drag him back to Florida to stand trial.

Trini is not about to let this happen and sets his goal to kill Holly. The one real snag in the whole scenario is that Trini is in the Federal Witness Protection Program and the CIA, the FBI, the New York City police and the Orchid Beach police each want him – badly. He manages to elude everyone while continuing his killing spree. The repartee between Holly and Stone is delightful, while never distracting from the thread of the story. Their comradeship with Dino, Stone's ex-partner when he was a NYPD detective, adds to the meat of the story, but I wonder if a police detective would be so readily available, even to an old friend.

Stuart Woods is known for his fast-paced, exciting, and suspenseful books. Reckless Abandon is another to add to his string of twenty-seven sure winners.
