axi is a welcome figure on the mystery novel scene. This is the fifth book in her series and Kelly Lange has created not only a captivating plot but a fascinating protagonist. Like all of us, Maxi has her fears but she manages to push them aside to get her job done. Her ongoing relationship with a foreign correspondent remains in the background as she allows herself to be wooed by a stringer - a free lance reporter.

he action-packed
Graveyard Shift
moves at a fast clip, as do Maxi's emotions. And the surprise climax is one I didn't see coming, even though the clues were there.
