Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) brings her usual mix of sensation, suspense and sex to this novel. Adam Hardesty is a rich, self-made man whose life has always centered around secrets - both collecting and using them. When a blackmailer threatens to expose a secret from his own past, Adam sets off to unmask the villain. In the process, he discovers the brutally murdered body of a reputed medium. Clues lead him straight from there to the door of a sensational novelist, Mrs. Caroline Fordyce.

Caroline's indignant protests of her innocence have a ring of truth. That, together with her beauty, convinces Adam. Caroline finds in Adam an ideal model for the villain of her upcoming story. Intrigued by his quest and greatly attracted to him, she joins his investigation. Supernatural fear pervades the story as mediums continue to be murdered. Attempting to discover whether a vengeful spirit or a very human killer is behind the growing trail of corpses, Caroline and Adam grow close, even as danger beings to stalk them.

Adam and Caroline are both self-made people who're not averse to bending societal rules when it suits them. They rely on their wits and intelligence to see them through, and this resourcefulness is refreshing. Misdirection, a lengthening list of possible culprits, and an eerie and escalating paranormal atmosphere keep the suspense flowing, while passion adds spice to this exciting mix. Wait Until Midnight is an entertaining, edgy read.
