ost people are secure in their knowledge and understanding of God and of Christ. But many find it difficult to grasp the role and relationship of the Holy Spirit. How does the Holy Spirit relate to us and to God? Calvin Miller explores these issues and others in depth to help demystify the Spirit.
I
n Part I, we learn about the symbols of the Spirit: '
The Wind
', '
The Fire
', and '
The Oil
'. Through scripture references, we read descriptions of these symbols and how they show the presence of the Holy Spirit. Part II discusses the ministries of the Spirit. His very presence in our lives, His triumph, His illumination of the Word, awakening and evangelism, and His counsel - all are detailed and it's made clear how they apply to the lives of individuals. Part III talks about the pleasure of the Spirit. Confusing concepts are put into simple terms so that anyone can understand what it means to grieve the Holy Spirit, or to experience the rapture of the Holy Spirit, and even to have a union with Christ.
T
his was an eye-opening book for me. The ideas are ones that most Christians have read about in the Bible, but Calvin Miller helps light a fire to deeper understanding and a closer connection with every part of the Trinity. Examples are given so that readers can put the book into a real-life perspective.
Loving God Up Close
is a
must-read
for anyone looking for a true and lasting relationship with the Holy Spirit.
