C
urious about the men and women of faith who were involved in the foundation of America? Want to know more about the forefathers who '
set forth the ideal of what this nation could become
'?
Under God
takes an engrossing look at sixty people, whose contributions to the United States have set the bar high for future leaders.
H
onestly, I opened the book, planning to skim through and read only a few of the profiles in detail. But once I started
Under God
, I literally could not put it down. The men and women described are real and their impact on America lasts to modern times. From famous people such as Thomas Jefferson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Rosa Parks, to little-known voices for freedom and purpose like Emmett Till and Theodore Weld, each vignette showcases the highlight of the person's life and contribution.
A
dditional fascinating articles include '
Native American Contributions to the Government
', '
The Gettysburg Address
', '
What Happened to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence?
' and '
The Construction of the U.S. Capitol
'. Toby Mac and Michael Tait have obviously done a great deal of research into these people's lives, and show how their faith impacted everything they did. The authors used information from an organization called WallBuilders, whose mission is to '
restore the constitutional, moral, and religious foundation on which America was built.
'
A
moving chapter at the end of the book, entitled '
A Call to Prayer
', discusses September 11 and America's need to return to faith.
Under God
is an excellent resource for Christian schools, church groups, homeschoolers, and anyone wanting more information about the spiritual history behind the development of the United States. '
These Americans took their place and proved, over and over, that 'One person acting with God can make a difference.' Can we do less?.
