ood news - Sujata Massey is back with her seventh mystery novel featuring antique dealer/sometime sleuth Rei Shimura. Rei has been commissioned to furnish a fusion Japanese restaurant in Washington, D.C.. This could be the big break she needs to get her business recognized in America.
I
f something is too good to be true, it usually is. Things start going wrong for Rei. The restaurant owner reneges on the very large bill for Rei's services. Her snazzy cousin Kendall disappears from behind the restaurant. She is engaged to find a woman who disappeared over thirty years ago. Her cousin's husband is not what he seems to be. And her live-in boyfriend is pushing their relationship to new heights.
M
assey's books are always a fun read - tightly written with suspense looming at every turn of a page. Rei is a very likable character, as is her Aunt Norie, who comes to visit from Japan expecting a wedding. Hugh is the ultimate boyfriend.
The Pearl Diver
also gives the reader a look at Japanese culture and food, which I found fascinating. You can't go wrong sharing the adventures of Rei Shimura.
