D
ana Prince disappeared from her home near Cleveland nearly three years before the story opens. Given her promiscuous past, it is thought the twenty-year old woman ran away. Now, a body wrapped in plastic, with its fingertips cut away and teeth fractured, has washed up from a river at flood stage. Christine Ireland is afraid her retarded brother Jeremy will be accused of killing the woman he loved.
A
new deputy in town, Michael Winter, tries to help Christine, who is almost raped, and is continually frightened by mysterious phone calls. Two additional deaths further complicate an already difficult case. The story is fast moving, with action coming when least expected. It's an enjoyable read, with breathtaking scenes and people who are easy to get to know, even the villains.
C
harlene Thompson has many more books to her credit. She has mastered her craft and gives readers a good story. It's just a shame that books such as
If She Should Die
have to end.
