Twin sisters Jane and Roxy Ryan are as different as can be imagined, and have become even more so since their mother's death. A-student Jane has turned into a control freak, who looks after the family, and has panic attacks when separated from her day planner (her sister calls it her 'nerd book'). Roxy's ambition is to get into the music business, and she's skipped school so often that it's Long Island truant officer Max Lomax's greatest ambition to bring her in. The sisters have grown apart.

A big day is about to dawn for them both. Jane is to give a speech, whose prize is a scholarship to Oxford University in England. Roxy plans to party crash a 'Simple Plan' video shoot and try to get her band's demo CD in the hands of a record executive. They head into New York city by train, with Lomax hot on Roxy's heels. So begins a wild romp full of costume changes. It includes music pirates, kidnappings and dognapping, and serendipitous romance. The twins take the scenic route through the water main, and manage to spill coffee on the same businessman again and again all over the Big Apple. Jane overcomes her fear of dogs and learns to drive, and both sisters re-evaluate their relationship.

Of course, it all works out in the end in unexpected ways. New York Minute is light and frothy, full of both the conflict and closeness that's natural to sisters - and the book includes a dozen exclusive behind-the-scenes photos from the movie.
