Pamela Britton is back with another effervescent historical romance to add to her already brimming repertoire. Take one Marquis determined to be proper at all costs; add a forthright lower-class gal spy; stir in mischievous monkeys, relatives and kidnappers to the mix; add a dash of forbidden love; and you have pure, unadulterated entertainment in your hands!

Descended from a long line of skirt-chasing, disreputable, rakish dukes, and fed up with this depraved legacy, Alexander Drumming, Marquis of Warrick, is hell-bent on being a thoroughly respectable person. Instead of chasing women, he's content to chase and capture smugglers. But when a bitter enemy decides to do something about this damned efficiency of his, a spy is planted in Alex's household. Not pleased at being used as a pawn, circus performer Mary Callahan reluctantly applies for the post of nurse to Alex's daughter. Trying her level best to fail the interview by being her usual forthright Cockney self, Mary is dumbfounded when it has the completely opposite effect. Although a tad put out by Mary's outspoken ways, Alex is more than intrigued by her lush charms and decides that his spoiled-brat of a daughter could do with firm handling. He hires Mary on the spot. The poor man doesn't know what he's let himself in for.

Before long, mischievous monkeys disrupt his household. Alex himself is kidnapped, and then thrown in jail. On top of which, he develops a case of raging lust for his newest employee. Has Alex at long last succumbed to the ancestral Wainridge licentiousness? Or is love behind it all? Mary is greatly attracted to her gentleman employer, even while she delights in shocking him with her frankness. But can there be love and marriage in their future, given their vast gulf in social status? Brimming with humor and interspersed with moments of growing sensuality, this story is a sexy mix of love and laughter. Sensitive and thoughtful characterizations add depth. Dizzy fun all the way, Tempted is an enticing read indeed.
