He's the man who called the commander in chief 'a fictitious president running a fictitious war' at the 2003 Academy Awards. He's back in print once again. In Dude, Where's My Country?, the author of Stupid White Men (the biggest-selling nonfiction book of the year) blasts the man he claims 'slithered into the White House on tracks greased by his daddy's oil buddies'. No one escapes Moore's critical eagle eye, and that includes the brother-in-law who ruins Thanksgiving dinner year after year by spouting admiring idiocies about government. The author begins his blistering book by asking President Bush questions that he feels are relevant to the state of the country's economic stability (or is that an oxymoron?) and moves on to the reasons for the war in Iraq. Moore asks many pertinent questions of the bureaucracy and then expounds on his own views as to what is actually happening and why. Michael Moore tells it like he strongly believes it is. The information he puts before us seems well documented. If true, we are in a sorry state. Sorrier than I thought or would like to believe. This is a book that everyone should read, if for no other reason than to make us all start thinking about what is happening around us and what we can do about it. The last chapter deals with what the average citizen can do in a quiet, peaceful effort to wash the current administration from office. Moore is not afraid to put his beliefs on the line. And he is trying to do something about them. You have to admire a man who puts his head on the chopping block because of his strong desire to do what he thinks is right. In some other countries, he would have disappeared after the first book. Dude, Where's My Country? is a must-read.
