This is a collection of short, addictive and entertaining, teaching stories from the Sufist tradition, side by side with amusing illustrations. Their focus is the comical, seemingly foolish Mulla Nasrudin ... but read a few times, and you'll find that the Mulla is hiding more than one layer of wisdom under his slapstick comedy.

Here is one: 'I can see in the dark, boasted Nasrudin one day in the teahouse. "If that is so, why do we sometimes see you carrying a light through the streets?" "Only to prevent other people from colliding with me."' I like to go back to the Mulla's humorous anecdotes every few years, to find out what I can newly discover in them.

Enjoy these tales of the Mulla, taken from Persian, Afghan, Turkish, and Arabic cultures; their messages are universal.
