The More the Terrier: Andy Carpenter #30    by David Rosenfelt Order:  USA  Can Minotaur, 2024 (2024) Hardcover, e-Book     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Attorney Andy Carpenter is back (reluctantly as always) to take on a canine friendly client, with the odds heavily stacked against them both in this thirtieth(!) in the ever popular series. Though episodes are all variations on the same theme, Rosenfelt makes it work with his lovable characters (canine and human) and intriguing plots. This episode opens on the murder of Professor Steven Rayburn. Next we see Andy, Laurie and Ricky return from a winter wonderland (Andy is not a winter person) vacation in the Adirondacks. They get home to find not three dogs, but four. Andy's trio have been joined by Murphy, whom they fostered before he went to live with young BJ Bremer and his mother Doris. Turns out that Murphy ran off after BJ was arrested for the murder that opened the episode. Rayburn was one of BJ's professors. Since Andy's golden retriever Tara likes Murphy, Andy really has no choice but to take the case and end Doris's 'nightmare that never ends'. BJ was at the murder scene but claims an admin clerk called to tell him to be there. An intriguing plot unfolds involving a drug dealer, money laundering, Russians, and various dealings in the metaverse. The More the Terrier is one of the better episodes in a very engaging series.
