) in Paul Doiron's outstanding series starring Maine game warden Mike Bowditch, as well as the spectacular Maine wilderness which is his workplace. Mike is now happily married to bush pilot/biologist Stacey Stevens.

ike and his father-in law and mentor, Charley Stevens, fly out to visit Charley's friend, legendary bush pilot Josie Jonson, after Mike learns of an armed man offering bribes for the location of her isolated land near the Canadian border. Skilled builder Mark Redmond is building her a dream cabin there, while homeschooling his twelve-year-old daughter, Cady.

osie flies Mike and Charley out to warn them, but events quickly take an unexpected and violent turn. Mike is left to pursue the fleeing Redmonds on his own, worried about the young girl, but determined to catch a murderer. He soon finds that he's up against someone with skills surpassing his own and once more in a fight for his life, one that takes him across the border into Canada.
