Nina and Simon seemed the perfect young couple. But after they left for the weekend at his family's Vermont cabin, only Simon returned. The novel begins from twenty year old Nina Fraser's point of view. She loves to climb and she'd been in love with Simon Jordan for years. But when they went to different universities, Simon became intense and controlling. Their relationship changed. He became rougher in bed. Then he asker her to spend a week at the cabin with him. They climbed together - and she fell. Was it really an accident? She decided to tell him they were over. Next we see her parents learn that Simon has gone home, but where is Nina? They drive over to ask and are told that Simon and Nina broke up. We share the points of view of all the parents. Nina's call the police. Simon's wealthy family will do anything to protect their son, hiring pricy lawyers and a PR firm that launches a nasty media campaign, lying about Nina's parents, accusing her dad of being a pedophile. Simon shows disturbing interest in Nina's younger sister Grace. Simon's mother begins to wonder about her son and soon discovers the truth. Nina's father Andy decides to take matters into his own hands. How will either family survive?
