A Solitude of Wolverines
and
A Blizzard of Polar Bears
as the third in Alice Henderson's environmental thriller series starring wildlife biologist Alex Carter. Henderson delivers another gripping read, just as violent and action packed as the previous episodes.

lex is sent to northeastern Washington state to investigate the possible sighting of an endangered mountain caribou. She stays in an old ranch house. Seventeen months before that, the
Prologue
reveals an attack in the Colville National Forest on backpacker Amelia Fairweather. Just after Alex arrives, a dead body is found in the nearby town, that of a ranger who had disappeared months before.
C
omplicating Alex's work is tension caused by clear-cutting of private land next to the forest with protesters camping - and one up a tree. There are also strange lights in the forest. The local sheriff asks Alex to keep an eye out for the missing backpacker. Someone shoots at her and she finds traps in the forest plus an underground dwelling. A good friend is abducted.
A
s we expect, Alex sorts it all out (with help from the tree sitter) and she even meets her guardian angel from earlier episodes once more. It's an exciting read and don't miss the
Afterword
on the dire straits of southern mountain caribou.
