The Overnights
is third in Ian K. Smith's series starring PI Ashe Cayne (a former Chicago detective who often quotes Shakespeare), it's the first that I have read. His client this time is Morgan Shaw, '
the prime evening anchor at the city's top-rated WLTV
'.
M
organ thinks someone is trying to kill her and wants to hire Ashe as a bodyguard. He's not interested, planning to winter in Arizona and play golf. He's content with his relationship with the lovely Carolina Espinoza. Then Morgan's tires are slashed. He agrees to help her but only for the two weeks before he heads to Arizona. Julia, the ex-fiancee who ditched him, turns up, to complicate his life further.
M
organ has more on her mind than the danger she's in. There's a good chance that she'll lose her position as the city's top news anchor, until she finds a blockbuster story to boost her ratings - an unarmed black man
executed
by an undercover police officer. Ashe helps her investigation, but uncovers some disturbing information. Is he being played?
