Julie Carrick Dalton's The Last Beekeeper is a post apocalyptic tale that opens over a decade after the Collapse. Bees and other pollinators became extinct, a disaster for world food security. Sasha's father Lawrence was imprisoned for keeping bees from the authorities and she ended up in state care.

Now she returns to the farm where she grew up, planning to uncover the research that her father buried there. Squatters have claimed the farm (Halle, Ian, Millie and Gino), but let her stay. As she ingratiates herself with them and they become like family, the story moves back and forth in time to reveal what led up to this.

Life slowly improves for all of them. Sasha even makes a new friend (perhaps more) in Bassel - and then she sees a real honey bee. But folk who claim to see bees go missing and die - why? Her father tells her to find Dr. Maher and Bassel helps.

They learn about past genetic manipulation with unintended consequences. Authorities are determined to keep it secret, but there may still be hope for recovery of pollination. Sasha and her friends risk everything for the hope of a better world.
