It's translated by Ian Giles. One of the leads is introduced right away (on her way to meet the other). Beat cop Micaela Vargas is from a family of Chilean political refugees. She grew up in a seedy area on the outskirts of Stockholm and has two brothers on the wrong side of the law. Despite that, her brother Lucas is very protective of his sister. Micaela is involved in a murder enquiry. The victim, Jamal Kabir, was a refugee from Afghanistan and a popular soccer coach. He was beaten to death with a rock. The police have a suspect in custody and seem uninterested in pursuing other leads. Yet there seems to be more to Kabir's back story than is generally known. As the novel opens, Micaela accompanies more senior colleagues to consult wealthy Professor Hans Rekke, a world renowned specialist in interrogation techniques (think a Swedish Sherlock Holmes). Hans is at the opposite end of the societal spectrum from Micaela, with connections at the highest level, but has strong vulnerabilities. Somehow they connect and work together to solve the case - against very strong opposition. Hans' habit of speaking truth to power has consistently got him into difficulties. Dark Music is an intricate mystery with fascinating leads, whom I very much hope to meet again. Don't miss this one!
