Fall Guy: Joe Gunther #33    by Archer Mayor Order:  USA  Can Minotaur, 2022 (2022) Hardcover, CD, e-Book     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Fall Guy follows Marked Man as the thirty-third Joe Gunther mystery in Archer Mayor's very popular police procedural series set in Vermont. It features the Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) team led by Gunther, and including one-armed Willy Kunkle and his partner Sammie Martens. Medical examiner Beverly Hillstrom is Joe's romantic interest. Both Beverly's journalist daughter Rachel Reiling and PI Sally Kravitz have also moved into the limelight. This time, the discovery of a murdered burglar (in the trunk of a car) also uncovers evidence - a stolen cell phone relating to an unsolved cold case - the abduction of preteen Scooter Nelson years before. Son of a prominent local couple, Scooter had simply vanished. The case 'had stuck in Gunther's craw forever after' and he's galvanized by their finding the boy's phone. Now they just have to figure out where the burglar stole it from. Each team member plays his or her part in following a myriad of leads relating to homicide, child molesting, kidnapping, domestic abuse, police corruption, and more. Of course, they slowly and steadily tie it all together and find their answers. This series is always worth a read.
