thrillers now brings us another dark, heart pounding mystery in
Dark Objects
. It opens on the discovery of a woman's body staged with various objects, including Laughton Rees' book,
How to Process a Murder
(to forensically clean a crime scene). The victim's husband is missing from the Millers' multi-million-pound London mansion.
L
aughton is an academic, estranged for twenty years from her father John since her mother's death, which traumatized her. It also left her over protective of her own daughter Gracie, and suffering from OCD. John Rees is the Metropolitan Chief Commissioner, so the press have a heyday with his daughter's connection to the case. DCI Tannahill Khan leads the investigation.
R
eaders get to see the killer keeping a close eye on unfolding events, and sending photos and information to journalist Brian Slade. Tannahill talks to Laughton and convinces her (reluctantly on her part) to join his investigative team. There are further deaths, as the killer moves closer and closer to his ultimate target - who this time is ready for him.
