The Reflecting Pool
as the second in Otho Eskin's mystery series starring Washington, D.C. homicide detective Marko Zorn. To support his very expensive tastes, Zorn has worked for years on the side for Cyprian Voss. Zorn believes Voss represents a consortium of very wealthy men.
T
he story opens with a bang - literally - as an assassin tries to shoot Zorn. Voss calls for a meeting soon afterwards, tasking Zorn with the protection of lovely Nina Voychek, the visiting prime minister of Montenegro. Apparently, the Russian mafia are involved in plans to assassinate her.
A
s this meeting ends, Zorn is called by his partner, Detective Lucy Tanaka. There's been a murder at the Capitol Theater and the world famous actress, Victoria West, who was killed was once Zorn's lover. It seems to be rather a locked room mystery.
S
oon, Zorn multi-tasks on several fronts at once, all the while trying to protect the visiting PM and to keep from being killed himself. He's given a message in code by someone killed soon afterwards - in a similar manner to Victoria's murder. More deaths follow.
Head Shot
is an exciting read with an unusual protagonist and constant action.
