Wild Irish Rose is the eighteenth (following The Ghost of Christmas Past) in Rhys Bowen's charming historical mystery series, now written along with her daughter. Its star is Irish Molly Murphy. Previously a private investigator, she is now wed to New York police Captain Daniel Sullivan. They have a small son, Liam, and a ward, Bridie. Daniel's mother also lives with them, which proves somewhat of a trial to Molly.

This episode opens in 1907. Molly's close friends and neighbors, Sid and Gus, ask for her help in distributing clothing to new immigrants on Ellis Island, Molly's own point of arrival in the USA. Bridie accompanies them and is briefly lost, following a young woman who closely resembles Molly. That evening Daniel returns late after a dead man is found on Ellis Island. The main suspect is Rose McSweeney, the young Irishwoman who looks very like his wife.

Of course, this arouses Molly's sympathy for Rose, and she inserts herself into the investigation, despite Daniel's strong objections. At the same time, Bridie is becoming quite the handful in her early teens. Molly being Molly finds evidence the police had not uncovered and also helps Rose find a position as a companion. But not everything is as it seems. There's another murder, and soon Molly and Bridie find themselves in great danger.
