S
tacy Willingham's mystery,
A Flicker in the Dark
, opens in a psychologist's office in 2018 Baton Rouge. Chloe Davis's patient's account of her dad leaving brought back dark memories for Chloe as well. When she was twelve, her father confessed to killing six teen girls in their town of Breaux Bridge and her mother attempted suicide.
T
wenty years have passed and Chloe is soon to be married to Daniel Briggs, whom her protective brother Cooper dislikes. She's called by New York Times reporter Aaron Jansen, who wants to do a story on her family. Then a local teen girl goes missing, followed by a second. The story moves back and forth in time from Chloe's recollections of past events to the current search for the missing girls.
P
olice interview Chloe about the second girl who was her patient and whose body was found behind her office. Jansen tells her he believes there's a copycat serial killer in action - and victims' jewelry is missing just as it was in the earlier killings. Chloe starts digging, along with Aaron Jansen. She begins to worry that she might also be at risk.
N
ot very many people knew of the victims' missing jewelry and all of them are close to Chloe. Then another teen in her orbit disappears. Tension builds to more than one shocker in the conclusion.
