is the first in Johanna Mo's Swedish police procedural series,
The Island Murders
, starring Detective Hanna Duncker. She has returned to her native Öland, which she left years before when her father Lars was convicted of murder (her brother Kristoffer moved even further away, to London.

anna now works as a serious crimes investigator for the Kalmar police and is partnered with Erik Lindgren, who keeps asking her questions she doesn't want to answer. When the dead body of fifteen-year-old Joel Forslund is found by German tourists on Öland, she and Erik are assigned to the case.
T
he story moves back and forth in time showing what led to the murder. Joel had a secret - what was it and who was he trying to protect? When his mother Rebecka (a childhood friend of Hanna's) is told of her son's death, she immediately accuses Joel's wealthy, entitled, and abusive father Axel Sandsten.
H
anna solves the case, and it's both sad and surprising. Along the way, she is threatened, and it's to do with her dad's case - was he innocent? This first episode ends with her reading through the investigation report of her father's case - where will this lead?
