The Exiled Fleet follows The Last Watch as the second in J. S. Dewes military SF series, The Divide. It's set on the edge of the universe, where the dregs of the military kept watch as Sentinels.

In the first episode, they learned that the universe was collapsing, that they were alone, abandoned, and the only ones who could stop it. Excubitor Adequin Rake commanded the Argus. Once a Titan war hero, she refused to kill the last living alien Viator breeder and was sent to the Divide. Genius Cavalon Mercer, once prince and heir to the Empire, was exiled after he nuked his grandfather Augustus's facility, which bred clone soldiers. After some initial issues, they started working very well together.

As this episode opens, Cav is desperately working on a jump drive, so that they can get four thousand rescued Sentinels to Kharon Gate before their supplies run out. He succeeds, but they then need fuel. After being captured by aliens, Cav and Rake find help from an unexpected source. That becomes a game changer. Their next quest takes Cav right back to home territory, where he discovers a shocking secret about his own origins, and about his grandfather's plans.

As this second episode ends in a massive rebel stronghold, Rake finds herself leader of a rebellion that just might have a chance of success, with Cav at her side. I look forward to what comes next.
