. As it opens, we meet Addison, who has no memory of anything before the last two years, but does have scars that she wonders about.
N
ow she celebrates her engagement to Gabriel, from a wealthy and privileged family. They are deeply in love, and Gabriel's sister Hailey has become a close friend, but Addy worries over what dark secrets her past might hold. So does her future mother-in-law, Blythe, who hires an investigator to find answers.
I
n parallel with Addy's new life, readers are introduced to psychiatrist Julian in Boston, whose wife Cassandra disappeared two years before, leaving their seven-year-old daughter Valentina badly missing Mommy. Julian has also hired a detective. The story moves back and forth between past and present, gradually revealing what took Addy's memory.
W
e learn that Ed, a truck driver, gave Addison a ride on a New Jersey highway and took her home to his wife Gigi. They have become like parents to her. She seems like such a lovely person - why do the few memories that bubble up hold rage and violence? Why do her nightmares include '
blood and dead bodies
'?

ension rises as Addison - and readers - get closer to answers, which are terrible ones. But by the end, there's no longer a stranger in her mirror.
