I've long enjoyed Jon Land's thrillers especially his Caitlin Strong series, so opened Margaret Truman's Murder on the Metro, the thirty-first in the Capital Crimes series, and was not disappointed. It's fast-paced and totally engrossing.

Readers meet one of the two leads, international PI Robert Brixton early as he foils a terrorist bombing on the Washington Metro. Brixton is still haunted by the death of his beloved daughter in a restaurant bombing, blaming himself for having been unable to save her.

Soon afterwards, Secret Service agent Kendra Rendine contacts him. Kendra was in charge of the detail protecting Vice President Stephanie Davenport, who has died, apparently from a heart attack. Kendra believes she was murdered. She seeks Brixton's help and, together, they uncover a trail leading all the way to the Oval Office.

Moving to Israel, we meet the legendary Lia Ganz, Lioness of Judah a retired Mossad agent. She's with her granddaughter in the ocean by a Caesarea beach when a drone attack kills over fifty and wounds many more. Ganz leaves retirement to find and deal with the perpetrators. That quest takes her to the United States, where she saves Brixton's life and then works with him.

Brixton follows a trail to a federal prison where elderly Sister Mary Alice Rose has been held (with no record of her incarceration) as a national security risk. She was arrested making a protest at the Y-Twelve nuclear facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Lia and Brixton organize a jail break.

It becomes a race against time for Brixton, the Lioness of Judah, and an elderly nun to 'prevent the looming deaths of five million Americans.' As always, Jon Land delivers a gripping, thrilling read.
