Catherine McKenzie's Six Weeks to Live is a gripping psychological thriller with a most unusual premise. Forty-eight-year-old Jennifer Barnes is horrified to be told by her doctor that she has a brain tumor, and only six weeks left. Adding insult to injury, she becomes certain that she was poisoned a year ago - she finds blood tests that showed lead 'off the charts'.

She suspects the husband with whom she is involved in a difficult divorce, but her three daughters - medical student Emily, scientist Aline (married with two sons), and free spirited Miranda (whose financial problems caused her to move back in with her mother) - won't believe her. Nevertheless, they rally around to support Jennifer, while she (against their wishes) begins to investigate.

Since Jenn's symptoms are likely to include memory issues as well as behavior and personality changes, this will clearly be a challenge - as will getting anyone to believe her conclusions! One rejoinder says it all: 'I think I'm right. You think I'm crazy. Bit it doesn't matter, because either way, I'm going to be dead soon.'

Jenn's digging brings all sorts of family secrets to the surface and changes her daughters' perceptions of their father for the worse. The story alternates point of view between Jennifer and her daughters. Its resolution was a real shocker, very unexpected!
