is an engrossing psychological thriller. It begins with the death of a family of four on vacation in Mexico, apparently caused by a gas leak. But this wasn't just any family. The Pines' eldest son Danny is serving a life sentence for the murder of his teen girlfriend Charlotte.

Netflix true crime documentary, focusing on the father Evan's belief that it was a false conviction, had put the family in the news, something that NYU student Matt Pine strongly disliked (Matt has reason to believe his brother guilty). He's devastated when federal agents arrive at his dorm to tell him what happened to his parents, teen sister Maggie and small brother Tommy.

he story moves back and forth in time, alternating between back stories of Pine family members, script of the documentary, and Matt's attempts to understand what really happened. He has to go to Mexico to sign papers for the release of the Pines' bodies. Special Agent Sarah Keller assists him, though he wonders why a Financial Crimes FBI Agent is involved.

att is attack repeatedly in NY and in Mexico - why? The plot thickens after he finds an unread text from Maggie. The documentary crew uncover evidence in Mexico, making accidental deaths unlikely. When Matt flies to Adair, Nebraska for the funeral, he's touched and encouraged to find that a group of NY friends have dropped everything to come and support him.

arah Keller shows up too, with evidence of foul play, and Matt decides there's a reason that he survived - to seek justice. He does find it, after further twists and turns in this intricate, absorbing thriller - don't miss
