For Real or Quackery? ...

As I review this, I think of the young teen lab partner of my granddaughter who cured her depression by sitting on nearby railroad tracks and catching the next train. Depression is nothing to fool around with. Sure, techniques help – but only under the guidance of medical supervision. The condition is real, and it affects millions at some point in their lives. The victims are far more than the depressed. All around them are affected as well.

This self-guided program gives the reader an additional approach to dealing with depression, not an alternative to real, professional help. The author says she offers a new way of seeing things. 'Depression is the side effect of being buried under our lives ... The medicine is not in finding the cure, it's in the attention to why you need the medicine in the first place.'

Our bodies are ruled by electrical impulses, meridians, and when these become disrupted, symptoms develop. Thoughts, stress, and emotions play a major role. This energy system controls mind and body. Symptoms may be physical or emotional, but they are very real. Our body has two minds, one subconscious and one conscious. The subconscious is 95% in control and is based on our life experiences, most occurring before age seven. In short, a tough childhood may lead to a tough life. Know someone who is always surrounded by chaos and drama? This is the person this book addresses.

Discussed are the principles of energy therapy. Scher addresses techniques, exercises, and how to customize for personal use. Tapping the body is the key. Reach for the trigger points. Sweep to release. Use positive statements to end all exercises and tell yourself you will be okay now. What are your self -messages? Do you tell yourself you are worthless because someone with more problems than you once said so? This can be changed.

Scher speaks of promises to yourself that include, 'Tell the truth.' Listen to your body. There is no need to be perfect. Take action through tapping. Start at the karate chop point. Change may be slow, but change will be there. Above all, don't think you can cure this yourself. This is a self-help book, but depression is real and requires professional help. Pay attention. It's real. Help is there.

This book lost a star because of the profanity. It weakens a great message, and is totally unnecessary. Strong writing owns its own power.
