The subtitle of this book is 'A Story of What Might Have Been,' which poignantly describes the situation with Luke and Middy, who were high school sweethearts over fifty years ago.

Middy, a rich widow, has returned to Creel, a small town in Georgia, seemingly to resume where she left off with Luke. He, a widower, and always the more conventional of the two, is pretty dubious about this proposition. But along with rest of the town, he finds himself taken with this ethereal person who hasn't aged and who has the best of intentions for everyone with whom she comes in contact.

As the two relive their youth and learn about what happened since, we see Luke looking back to review those important milestones that led to where he is now and Middy constantly pressing forward for her 'happily ever after.'

The result is a beautiful tale of delightful characters, the best of small-town living and a good sprinkle of generous humor. Terry Kay never disappoints.
