Silent Bite: An Andy Carpenter Mystery    by David Rosenfelt Order:  USA  Can Minotaur, 2020 (2020) Hardcover, CD, e-Book     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Silent Bite, the twenty-second episode in David Rosenfelt's mellow and deservedly popular Andy Carpenter series, opens after a family Caribbean cruise - Laurie wanted to get them into the Christmas spirit early. The episode opens on the shooting of Terry Banner, opinion reporter for a Scranton, Pennsylvania station. An unsavory character, he's a minor media star who spouts a daily outrage spiel, with a sideline in dealing opioids. Willie Miller, Andy's partner at the dog rescue Tara Foundation asks for his help after Willie's old cellmate, Tony Birch, is arrested for murder, a different one (the connection is revealed later). Of course, Andy can't say no to Willie, so he interviews Tony, a mechanic who's accused of the shooting of Frankie Zimmer - they had grown up together and were in a gang, the Fulton Street Boyz. The fact that Tony adopted a rescue dog from the Foundation (a Nova Scotia duck-tolling retriever) seals the deal and Andy takes on the case, even though it's a daunting one against his client. Yet another murder is uncovered, with the same MO. As damning evidence builds, Andy presses for truth from his client, and gets an earful - about something terrible that happened years before. As usual, Andy wins his case and gathers with friends, client and canines to celebrate at the Tara Foundation. Silent Bite is yet another engrossing and engaging holiday read from David Rosenfelt.
