A
Deception at Thornecrest
is the seventh in Ashley Weaver's engaging mystery series. It's set (mainly) in 1930s England, and the cast has grown to include Amory's helpful maid Winnelda (who has an especially important part to play this time!)
T
he episode opens in April 1934 on home territory, Milo's country house in Kent, where a very pregnant Amory awaits the birth of their child. Milo is on business in London, when a young woman shows up, claiming to be Mrs. Milo Ames. Imogen claims to have met Milo in Brighton and that he promised marriage.
T
here is an explanation and it's a doozy, that brings in a fascinating new character, Darien, to this enjoyable series! He's involved in an awkward love triangle, one of his ladies also suffering the unrequited love of Milo's stable hand Bertie. Darien comes under suspicion when Bertie is found dead at the local Springtide Festival.
N
aturally, Amory ('
the crime solver in the family
') is impelled to investigate, despite her condition. Another murder follows, and Amory gathers all the suspects together at the vicarage and, as her labor begins, she solves the case.
