When Kate McGuire's good life in Manhattan fell apart, she packed up and headed for Coral Cay, Florida. She had lost her pastry chef job and called off her engagement to a cheating fiancé.

Just by chance she found a job in a bakery, running the front of the business. Not at all what she wanted but it provided room and board. Her boss, Sam Hepplewhite, a crusty old widower, will only bake bread, while she wants to get into pastries.

A local shady entrepreneur wants to buy The Cookie House for pennies on the dollar! The man plans to turn Coral Cay into a resort town, though its citizens find fault with his plans. When that man is found dead after eating Sam's cinnamon rolls, he's arrested for murder.

Kate and her new friends rush to the rescue. She plans to prove his innocence with their help. While the mystery has a good plot, I also enjoyed the baking scenes very much. I could almost smell my all-time favorite, oatmeal raisin cookies, baking.
