As this episode opens, he has reunited with his American wife, physician Christine Palmer, and their small son Davy. They live a nomadic life, sailing the oceans and never staying in one spot for long. Suddenly everything changes on the Bay of Gibralter - Slaton's wife and son go missing. As readers share his anxiety about their fate, Larsen introduces us to some of the villains of the piece, a small band of faux refugees wending their way through central Turkey, gradually to North Korea. Their commander is Iraqi Kasim Boutros and they are all prepared for martyrdom. Slaton receives a message on Christine's phone, assigning him an assassination target in Vienna, in return for his family. He heads there at once, desperate to find them. But, as he eventually discovers, nothing is quite what it seems. Mossad is involved as is the CIA and a wannabe Korean defector. As expected from a Larsen thriller, there's plenty of action all over the globe before Slaton, helped as before by the CIA's Anna Sorenson, prevents a nuclear threat against a US territory and reunites with his family in North Korea.
