That Old Scoundrel Death: A Dan Rhodes Mystery    by Bill Crider Order:  USA  Can Minotaur, 2019 (2019) Hardcover, e-Book     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Bill Crider's That Old Scoundrel Death (the 25th in this humorous, often farcical mystery series) brings back small town Texas Sheriff Dan Rhodes. It all begins with a man tweaking on meth, and with a snake tattoo around his neck, pointing a gun at the Sheriff. The crazy guy had just run Cal Stinson off the road Cal's grateful that the Sheriff saved his life. He's on his way to an old school building in Thurston, which is about to be torn down. However, he's only had a reprieve as Rhodes finds him shot in the school the next day, having told a woman nearby that his name was Bruce Wayne. All this sets the scene for another cozy procedural romp for this ever equable Sheriff and his friends and associates. I especially enjoy blogger/journalist Jennifer Loam (who tends to sensationalize Rhodes' already amusing exploits) and wannabe 'Confidential Investigator' Seepy Benton (who's actually helped the Sheriff solve a case or two). Of course our Sheriff figures it all out, dealing with bloggers dissing the Mayor, and an armadillo assault along the way. It's an engaging series.
