If you're looking for a rollicking space adventure, a mix of Mission Impossible and The Sting, set in an alien universe, then dive into Patrick S. Tomlinson's Starship Repo.

It stars refugee human teenager Firstname Lastname (not her real name but one she's been stuck with by a data-entry error). She's been wandering far from Earth space for some time, getting by as best she can (rarely legally) and surrounded by aliens of every type imaginable - and many that are not (imaginable that is).

Stealing on an alien space station, Junktion, to make ends meet, First (a skilled hacker) is blackmailed by Loritt Chessel into working with his starship repo team, his 'little family of kindhearted thieves and miscreants.' The story takes off from there and it's tons of fun.

First has an amusing habit of making pets of the most alarming aliens, like the Gomeltic (that she calls Guinevere) with 'six legs, thirty claws, sixty teeth, and four thousand generations of deliberately bred rage!' Despite this, she endears herself to the rest of Loritt's team and saves the day repeatedly.

The laughs keep on coming, especially what Tomlinson does with PLUMP branding on a luxury cruiser and the Fonald Plump automation. I do hope that this is only the beginning of First's story!
