eady for a feel-good holiday mystery with a canine flair? Look no further than David Rosenfelt's new Andy Carpenter cozy,
Deck the Hounds
. The fact that this is the eighteenth in this series testifies to its popularity!
A
ndy is a millionaire defense lawyer. He doesn't like to work, but he's softhearted and ends up taking on cases, especially where pooches are involved. His wife Laurie Collins (the love of his life) has his back and they have adopted a boy named Ricky - seems like Laurie and Ricky gang up on Andy a lot, but he loves it. He also has a colorful and quirky entourage of helpful associates, who jump into his cases as needed.
T
his time, a homeless veteran, ex-Green Beret Don Carrigan, is attacked on the street and his pregnant dog Zoey defends him. Because she bit the perp, Zoey is taken to an animal shelter to be checked for rabies, which requires holding her for ten days. Andy (who is involved in a canine rescue group) jumps in, arranging to hold her instead. He puts up Don and Zoey in an apartment above his garage.
N
ext, Andy's friend, homicide Captain Pete Stanton, arrests Don for the home invasion murder of a wealthy business executive! Apparently DNA evidence ties him to the scene. Of course, Andy takes the case. Other deaths follow. As we expect, Andy's team solves the case, after the requisite courtroom drama (and another home invasion much too close to home!) A Merry Christmas it is!
